Enabling Change to create a High-Performance Business

The Organisation:

Oakland Glass (Oakland) is a specialist manufacturing business that produces and supplies double and triple-glazed window units for a wide range of customers in the UK. The business has undergone significant change over the last few years led by the MD Amanda Falsey. Amanda’s expertise has helped focus Oakland on quality and service. This focus has helped the business become more efficient, increase demand and grow the customer base. 

The Challenge:

On taking over the role of MD, Amanda recognised the need for change. Her experience in building great organisations, coupled with her skills in developing people and culture helped identify what needed to be done.  She also recognised the benefit of using external support to help and called on the services of The Excellence Partnership to design and deliver a change programme to create the organisation she envisioned. 

The Approach:

The change programme delivered was based on the TXP Excellence Programme framework, adapted to Oakland’s needs.  It involved:. 

  • Developing a vision, and mission for the business, and agreeing a set of core values.
  • Developing the softer skills of all the leaders in the organisation.
  • Establishing the basis for a ‘Great Place to Work’.
  • Addressing Oakland’s ‘burning platforms’ that were limiting performance.
  • Developing an understanding of lean across the organisation, and how it could be applied to Oakland.
  • Designing and supporting the deployment of the Oakland lean implementation plan across the entire operation. This included:
    • Establishing the foundations
    • Deploying the fundamentals
    • Setting up process improvement
    • Organising the reactive and proactive problem-solving process

The Outcome:

The business has grown significantly under Amanda’s leadership, and she has created a high-performance business with an engaged culture, and significant plans for growth. The entire organisation can now see the need to constantly improve to allow it to maintain its position as one of the leading suppliers of glazed units to its chosen markets.
